‘Nobody Should Have To Die The Way My Daughter Did,’ Says Mother Of Murder Victim Kaylyn Whitaker

On October 31, 2014, 20-year-old Kaylyn Whitaker died from a gunshot wound in the Martinsville, Illinois home she shared with her fiancé, Connor Scott. Scott initially told authorities that he was sleeping in bed next to Kaylyn when the gun went off and he believed she committed suicide.

“Nobody should have to die the way my daughter did,” says Kaylyn’s mother, Leslie, adding, “There was no way that she would have ended her own life.”

Then, in February 2019, Connor Scott walked into an Indiana police station and confessed to killing Kaylyn. At his arraignment, Scott entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder. He later changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a reduced sentence. Connor Scott is now serving 37 years behind bars followed by three years’ parole. He is not eligible for early release.

“I don’t think we’ll ever get closure,” says Leslie in the video above. She and Kaylyn’s father, Dave, join Dr. Phil in an exclusive interview airing Monday.
