So is America creedal or tribal? Are we fundamentally an idea or are we a nation? Is America a creed or is it a culture? Or is it both? Let me know what you think in the comments below! Because, frankly, in an effort to dismiss the current rise of nationalist populism, many in our intellectual class are asking this question, and I need not tell you which side they’re coming down on. It is fashionable to push against the rise of the new nationalism by liberals asserting that America is fundamentally not a nation, not a culture, not a religion or ethnicity. No, America is a creed! You’ve heard it often enough: We are the only nation founded in the world that was founded on an idea rather than an ethnicity or culture or religion or tradition. And so, this whole America First nonsense ends up actually doing great damage, irreparable harm to the true notion of what America really is! So what do you think? Well, we’re going to take a deep dive into that question, and come out on the other side I believe with some very striking clarity; I think you’ll find it very enriching!
