as posted by the channelSkirmish Between Protesters and DHS Agents at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building: Minnesotans gathered outside the Whipple federal building in Fort Snelling just outside Minneapolis on Friday morning during below freezing temperatures. They arrived to protest the deportations of their community members and the arrests of 16 demonstrators in recent weeks who face criminal complaint charges, including assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers, according to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Several hundred protesters approached the building entrance and were met by a skirmish line of Department of Homeland Security agents and a van full of sheriffs from the local county, Hennepin. Protesters yelled “Fuck ICE!” and chanted for the agents to quit their jobs.
Sheriffs issued a dispersal order and backed the protesters away from the entrance with non-lethal munitions drawn. They then deployed the munitions and detained at least one person.
“I think they’re good people [the sheriffs],” one protester, a retired principal, said, but “They shouldn’t be here protecting ICE… Why are our sheriffs, our police, here tear-gassing us?”
