as posted by the channelDrop Site’s Sarmad Jawad reports from the holy city of Najaf, where Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s flag-draped coffin crossed into Iraq today.
Iraqi officials estimate more than 3.8 million people attended the funeral procession, with local residents joined by crowds traveling from Basra, Muthanna, Maysan and other southern provinces, bringing traffic across large parts of the country to a standstill. Iraqi authorities declared Wednesday a public holiday in response to the influx. The procession will next travel to Karbala.
Jawad reflects on the political significance of millions in a country the United States invaded, occupied and subjected to years of sanctions turning out in force for the leader of a state currently at war with the U.S.
