2:51Now PlayingSection 219 is a provision buried in Congress's annual defense bill that would formally merge U.S. and Israeli military technology, weapons development, and supply chains. It will also create a permanent Pentagon official to oversee the partnership. Because it's a defense bill and not a treaty, the U.S. would be locked into obligations to Israel with nothing required in return.
The House passed it on July 22nd, 216-212. But the Senate's version of the same bill doesn't include Section 219 at all. The senate's version doesn't require appointment of the executive agent, so the two chambers will have to agree on a final version — and that's when we'll find out if Section 219 survives.
