Are you aware that you are in a war? In today's culture, there is an assault against men and their role as fathers. In the message "Fatherhood," Duane Sheriff draws unique parallels between a blacksmith and a father who prepares his home for spiritual warfare.
In 1 Samuel 13:19-22, the Philistines removed Israelite blacksmiths before the battle. Israel needed their blacksmiths to make swords and other weapons to fight in the war. Likewise, fathers are the blacksmiths in their homes. Men forge, shape, and temper their children to prepare them for life's battles, protecting them from the world's negative influences.
Fathers equip children with the moral clarity, character, and strong work ethic necessary for success. This world seeks to remove or feminize the blacksmith, thereby weakening our families. Fathers must reclaim their role, not suppress their masculinity. Under God's guidance, fathers have a crucial role in ensuring their children are ready to face challenges and not become susceptible to the deceptions and hardships of the world.
