Stephan Sterne is charged with capital murder in the death of 13-year-old Madeline Soto; he had been sexually abusing her for nearly two years. The a*use came to light through video and photographs discovered by Kissimmee police investigators while searching for Madeline.
Sterns, who is the 37-year-old boyfriend of Madeline’s mother, now faces over 60 counts of sexual vileness to a minor. These charges include incidents when Madeline was just 11 years old. The abuse occurred between February 2022 and February 2024, spanning the time when Madeline was 11 to around the time she went missing.
Detectives found evidence on Sterns’ phone, including videos and photos depicting the sexual abuse. Madeline’s mother, Jennifer Soto, has not been identified as a suspect in her disappearance or murder.
