But with several new venues and extensions to the existing infrastructure under construction, conservationists are concerned about the effect of the event on the environment. They're especially worried about what will happen to the Western Caucasus, a UNESCO World Heritage site which will be affected by the games. The region is home to a great diversity of ecosystems, including important plants and wildlife. The Sochi Organizing Committee (SOOC) has pledged to use an environmentallyfriendly approach and green standards to minimize the damage. Stay tuned on
