Refrigerator manufacturers in Europe once used to warn of the dangers of hugely-polluting chlorofluorocarbons, or CFC's, and promoted the use of propane instead. Today, propane fridges are widely common. In India, an air conditioner producer is trying to tap into the CFC- and FC- free technology, with some help from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ). But propane is flammable, and critics and skeptics are firing back against those plans. Global Ideas reporter Wolf Gebhardt shows us how the Indian company is trying to push ahead with its concept and convince customers that cooling systems can be energy-efficient, too.
