3:31Now PlayingThe discovery of 12-centimeter-long Anambra-Astrild, a popular African finch, has prompted a French research team to travel to Benin in West Africa. Prior to the recent revelation, the bird was only found in Nigeria. But pollution and deforestation there have driven the species to near extinction. Although only 1000 or so birds are believed to have survived, the humidity and swamps of the isolated Ouémé river valley provide a perfect environment for them to thrive.
