The conflict, which has been ongoing for over a year now, is already taking its toll on the global economy. US President Donald Trump has now threatened to raise further tariffs on Chinese goods if no deal is reached by March. This would hit an already-slumping Chinese economy hard. Shortly before the start of negotiations, charges against the Chinese technology group Huawei were brought on by the US Justice Department.
