Talks over their possible accession to the bloc are due to take place later this year. North Macedonia's membership bid has stalled over a decades-long dispute about the country's name with its neighbor, Greece. But last year the two countries struck a deal. They agreed that the republic be renamed "North Macedonia," in exchange for Greece no longer blocking its path to possible EU and NATO membership. North Macedonia has also vowed to step up its fight against crime and corruption, earning praise from the EU. Stevo Pendarovski, President of North Macedonia, discussed his country's EU membership bid in a studio talk with DW.
