It was her last chance to make her case to EU lawmakers still on the fence about her nomination. Von der Leyen needs to secure a majority in a secret confirmation ballot, being held later today. In her speech, she sought to allay concerns of lawmakers who have criticized her for being overly vague by laying out a number of ambitious policy points on topics including trade, gender equality, migration and Brexit.
