EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen calls it a "partnership of equals". But is it really? Many in Africa may disagree with that - as DW looks at just how lopsided this partnership is.
The African Union Chairman Macky Sall said the summit was a way to quote "achieve a renewed, modernised and more action-oriented partnership." For France's president Emmanauel Macron, it was a chance to prove why Europe should be Africa's most reliable partner.
One area where the balance of power between Africa and Europe is one-sided is when it comes to trade. African nations generally struggle to compete on the international market.
In Ghana, the local tomato industry is under serious threat. Increasing imports of tomato products from abroad are driving many farmers out of business.
Belgian MEP, journalist and human rights activist Assita Kanko says 'Europe has an old-fashioned, racist approach' and 'the EU has been babysitting Africa'.
A group of urban painters from Africa and Europe collaborated on a series of stunning murals in Ethiopia in 2021. DW Correspondent Isaac Kaledzi met with one of the artists in Accra, Ghana who tells us what he learned from the experience.
