5:00Now PlayingTurkish rapper Orkundk from Istanbul is facing 14 months in prison because of his songs on YouTube. Allegedly, his texts insult President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Orkundk says his songs are critical, satirical and covered by the right to freedom of expression. Since Erdogan's election as Turkish head of state in 2014, there have been tens of thousands of such trials and convictions. According to human rights activists, the insult allegations serve to prevent criticism of the president and to comprehensively restrict free speech.
