German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is hosting this year's G7 summit. Before its official start, he held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden. The meeting of the world's seven richest nations is focused on how to maintain unity in the face of Russia's aggression, and how to keep up support for Ukraine over the longer term. Other issues like energy security and climate change are also on the agenda.
Russia was once a part of the group, then known as the G8, but was expelled after it invaded and annexed Ukraine's Crimea region in 2014. Today's meeting is expected to be a display of unity and resolve against Russia, as the US and German leaders underlined.
