9:41Now PlayingFor weeks, many protesters in Iran have been calling for the fall of the Islamic Republic. They blame the government for the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman. She died on Sept. 16 while being detained by the morality police in Tehran for "inappropriate attire". While observers do not believe the unrest can topple Iran’s government, the protests mark one of the boldest challenges to the Islamic Republic since the 1979 revolution. , with reports of strikes spreading to the vital energy sector.
Even an increasingly deadly state crackdown hasn’t stopped them. Iranians across the country keep calling for the toppling of Ayatollah Khameni. They hold him responsible for the death of Mahsa Amini.
Many people targeted by the Islamic Republic’s security forces avoid treatment in hospitals for fear of being arrested. Instead, help comes from 10 thousand kilometers away.
Dr. Kayvan Mirhadi, an Iranian American doctor, is chief of internal medicine at the Clifton Springs Hospital in New York and offers medical advice online.
