In Iran, hundreds of thousands of women protested last year against the mandatory wearing of the hijab. In India, on the other hand, Muslim students protested for the right to wear the hijab in classrooms. The protests in the southern state of Karnataka last year followed a government ban.
India's Supreme Court is yet to decide on the matter, but for many Muslim students in the country, it comes down to personal choice. DW's Manira Chaudhary met two young women in Delhi who told her what wearing the Hijab means for them.
