159 mostly young people died in Seoul’s Itaewon district last year on October 29th, after hundreds packed into a narrow alley during Halloween celebrations.
A police investigation has since sought criminal charges against mainly law enforcement officials for failing to plan and respond to anticipated crowd numbers. A former police chief and former mayor are among six officials arrested. But families who lost loved ones on that day told DW that accountability should stretch to the very top.
