The head of Kyiv's military administration says Russia used drones, cruise missiles and probably ballistic missiles in the attacks. Ukraine's chief commander said all Russian missiles were destroyed in Kyiv's airspace. Russia has mounted a flurry of air strikes on Ukraine in recent days.
We talk about the latest developments with DW Correspondent Nick Connolly in the Ukrainian capital.
Meanwhile Ukraine's military says it's making progress in the battle for the eastern town of Bakhmut. Fighting has been raging in the town for months. Ukrainian forces say they're now pushing Russian troops back on the northern and southern outskirts. But inside Bakhmut, Ukraine's foothold keeps getting slimmer.
About this we talk with Dr. Marina Miron. She is a military analyst and a research fellow at the Defence Studies Department, King's College London. We ask her: German, France and the UK have promised even more military aid. How much of a difference will that make?
