New York’s new law restricting short-term rentals has come into effect. It requires hosts to obtain a license every two years, with short-term rentals only allowed if the host is present during the guest’s stay. The city says the policy will help with the city’s housing shortage but the company calls the law unfair, saying it amounts to a ‘de facto ban’ on Airbnb. Will more cities crack down on Airbnb to lower housing costs? DW speaks to Airbnb co-founder Nathan Blecharczyk to ask whether the new law will become a blueprint for other cities.
