The US vote was the only one against the motion. Thirteen members voted in favor of the call for an immediate halt to hostilities. The United Kingdom abstained. The vote was held after UN Secretary-General Guterres warned the conflict in Gaza posed a threat to international security.
The United Arab Emirates had drafted the cease-fire call.
