Israel has barred international journalists from entering Gaza as its military fights Hamas, classified as a terrorist group by multiple countries. Many Palestinian journalists and human rights workers have fled Gaza to save themselves - leaving the Palestinian health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza to keep count of casualties. International bodies have attested to the reliability of Palestinian numbers, despite the immense challenges on the ground.
