Prices are still high and the subsidy picture unclear: While France is still offering government-backed subsidies for buying an EV, its neighbor Germany decided to scrap theirs amid end-of-year budget chaos. Meanwhile, Chinese brands remain much cheaper than their European counterparts, thanks to fierce competition in the country and cheaper production. But even as consumer-side pressures mount, a battery manufacturing concentration is also impacting production.
