In addition, companies that contribute to Russia's military and technological strengthening or to the development of its defense and security sector are to be sanctioned. The EU would then no longer be allowed to sell goods and technologies with military applications to them. Most recently, the EU also used this instrument to target companies based in China, Uzbekistan, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, which are allegedly involved in circumventing EU sanctions.
