Ukrainian units launched the attack on Tuesday morning, sending troops and tanks across the border. Kursk has declared a state of emergency and Russian President Vladimir Putin described the attack as a "major provocation". Russian authorities claim five residents have been killed. Kyiv has not yet commented on the operation.
