6:31Now PlayingThis Friday evening, the last Bundeswehr soldiers will return from Niger. The failed crisis mission in the Sahel will finally come to an end - without a ceremonial reception in Germany.
The return brings Germany's involvement in the Sahel region to an abrupt end. In 2013, the Bundeswehr moved to Mali to support a UN stabilization force; apart from the mission in Afghanistan, it was the Bundeswehr's largest foreign deployment for a long time.
