If Moscow has indeed taken the town, it would enable its forces to step up the pace of their advance in Donetsk. Images showing troops raising a Russian flag have been geolocated by Reuters news agency to Kurakhove. Meanwhile Russia is dealing with a new Ukrainian offensive inside the Kursk region of western Russia.
