From the Panama Canal to Mars – Donald Trump is thinking big at the start of his second term as US president. And has experts guessing about his economic policies and what they’ll mean for the rest of the world.

The US economy is already booming after the Biden administration and has outpaced many competitors in terms of technology, productivity and economic growth.

Trump wants to extend this lead even further – with billions for AI projects, oil drilling, and with tax cuts – but also with controversial trade tariffs. Who will profit from his drastic “America First” policy? And who will it harm?

Melissa Eddy is a correspondent with The New York Times in Berlin, covering Germany’s economy, businesses and social issues.
