The number of billionaires is rising rapidly worldwide, including in Germany. Despite an inheritance tax, wealth continues to grow untaxed for the ultra-wealthy. How is that possible?

Ahead of the elections in Germany, most political parties overall promise tax relief in their election manifestos. While the Greens, SPD and BSW propose reforms to the inheritance tax aimed at generating an additional €3 billion annually, other parties advocate for reductions. The AfD's proposal could even slash annual inheritance tax revenue in Germany by as much as €10 billion. These policies could widen the gap between the rich and the poor.
