The quake's effects were also across neighbouring Thailand, with a skyscraper under construction hundreds of kilometres away in Bangkok collapsing. Rescue efforts are underway to trap dozens of workers thought to be trapped in the ruins.
The earthquake's epicenter was located 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing in Myanmar at around 12:50 p.m. local time (0620 GMT/UTC), according to the US Geological Survey.
