5:50Now PlayingIn an effort to resolve the escalating tariff war with the US, China has appointed a new trade negotiator.
Li Cheng-gang was previously China's envoy to the World Trade Organization. He is seen as a tough negotiator and has clashed with US officials in previous encounters. His dealmaking style has earned him the moniker "bulldog". Li's appointment marks a shift within the top leadership at the Chinese commerce ministry. Beijing appears to be pursuing a hardline stance in the intensifying trade war with Washington triggered by Trump's steep tariffs on items imported from China.
