Yet it remains unclear if the Liberals will clinch enough votes to form a majority government. Both Carney and political rival Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party, campaigned on how they would stand up to Trump. The elections were dominated by Trump’s tariff war and threats to annex Canada and make it the 51st state of the US.
