7:28Now PlayingThe UN is marking World Press Freedom Day, which showcases the role of media in highlighting accountability, justice and human rights. This year, the plight of journalists in Gaza is in the spotlight. With Israel banning foreign journalists from entering the territory, coverage of events on the ground has fallen heavily on the shoulders of local Palestinian journalists. Many of them risk their lives to bring the story to an international audience.
In fifteen months of war, Gaza became the most dangerous place in the world for journalists, with over 150 Palestinian reporters killed, including at least 41 while working, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Despite immense danger, Gazan journalists continued to report under siege, often working from makeshift newsrooms in tents.
