8:59Now PlayingUS President Donald Trump says he wants to re-open one of the country's most notorious prisons, Alcatraz, as a symbol of his tough stance on crime.
Alcatraz prison was built on an island two kilometers off the coast of San Francisco, and was supposed to be impossible for inmates to escape from. But the facility only held some 300 prisoners, and was closed in 1963 after just three decades due to its high operating costs. These days it operates as a museum and major tourist attraction.
Now, more than sixty years after it held any convicts, President Trump is ordering a massive investment to restore and expand the site, saying the country needs more prison space.
