The Russian Defense Ministry says its forces are now preparing an offensive into the neighbouring region of Dnipropetrovsk. The news follows days of intensified Russian shelling of Ukraine's second-largest city Kharkiv. Russia has stepped up its aerial assaults in recent weeks, launching some of the largest waves of drone and missile attacks since the beginning of the war.
