She has switched to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and continues to voice her criticism on social media, where she reaches hundreds of thousands of followers.
With a doctorate in canon law, studies in Munich and Vienna, and fluency in multiple languages — including Russian, Greek, German, and Italian — Sister Vassa brings both theological expertise and personal conviction to a polarizing debate within global Orthodoxy.
The decision to remove Sister Vassa from monastic status was published on the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. DW requested a comment on the decision and the Church’s stance, but received no response.
