24:20Now PlayingGerman Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said the positions of Ukraine, its European allies and US President Donald Trump are very much in agreement, ahead of Friday's talks between President Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Following online discussions with European leaders and Donald Trump, Chancellor Merz stressed the need to safeguard fundamental European and Ukrainian security interests - and said Europe would continue to strengthen Ukraine's army. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was in Berlin for the discussions, said he should be included in talks between the American and Russian leaders. He reiterated the point that a ceasefire must be the first thing in any agreement and stressed that only strong sanctions will help put pressure on Russia.
