10:24Now PlayingWomen in Nigeria have been campaigning for a long time for fairer representation in parliament. This week they took their cause to the streets of the capital Abuja. Even though women make up half of Nigeria's population, they're only four percent of the National Assembly.
That's just 20 of 469 lawmakers, making Nigeria one of the worst countries in the world for political empowerment. For example, Rwanda is a global leader for female representation with 63 percent of seats, and South Africa and Cabo Verde each have over 44 percent.
As DW's West Africa correspondent Azeezat Olaoluwa reports from Abuja, campaigners hope major change in legislation can help Nigeria catch up.
