9:08Now Playing. When she was just 18, Namatai Kwekweza founded a nationwide youth-leadership organisation protesting economic hardship and the lack of democratic spaces. Since then, she has been fighting for civil rights in Zimbabwe, and has paid the price for it.
This came at the price of later being thrown into prison, and tortured. Namatai Kwekweza has become a leading voice in Zimbabwe's social justice movement. Her organization WELEAD trains young leaders and pushes for their inclusion in political decision-making.
She has now been awarded the 2025 German Africa Award for her courage and her work inspiring a new generation.
