5:29Now PlayingIn the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, considered to be the birthplace of Jesus, Christians are celebrating Christmas again for the first time since the war in Gaza began two years ago.
A large Christmas tree has been erected in front of the Church of the Nativity and public celebrations are taking place once again. Tens of thousands of Christian pilgrims are flocking into the city. Manger Square is buzzing with festive lights, a Christmas market, and music shows for families, providing a much-needed economic boost to the city. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, who is the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem and the highest representative of the Catholic Church in the Holy Land, will lead a traditional procession from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, and midnight Mass.
