9:31Now PlayingA series of suspected antisemitic attacks across Europe, including in Belgium, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, has raised concerns about the safety of Jewish communities.
In Antwerp, Belgium, soldiers have been deployed to protect Jewish neighborhoods following incidents including arson attacks and an explosion at a synagogue. The city is home to one of Europe’s largest Orthodox Jewish populations.
DW correspondent Christine Mhundwa reports from Antwerp, speaking to members of the Jewish community who describe growing hostility and fear in daily life. The report also explores whether the current rise in antisemitism is linked to reactions to Israel’s military actions in Gaza, and why some experts warn against conflating Jewish identity with Israeli politics.
We also speak with Bart Wallet, Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Amsterdam.
