Cuba is suffering from nationwide blackouts driven by a US fuel embargo, and food is running out too. US threats of military action represent a new escalation after decades of fraught relations between the communist island and the capitalist superpower: From the Cuban Revolution and the rise of Fidel Castro, to the US’ failure at the Bay of Pig Invasion and later, the Cuban Missile Crisis at the height of the Cold War. The Trump administration says that Cuba poses a threat to the US. Trump and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, are eying regime change in Cuba.
Can Cuba continue to resist under intense US pressure — or will the US use brute force?
