rushed out of the dinner. Trump later told reporters at a late-night White House briefing
that he believed he was the target of the attack. He said the Secret Service officer was saved by his bulletproof vest and was in "good shape."
Donald Trump was set to speak at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner for the first time as US president. Trump announced in March that he would be attending the dinner 'in honor of our Nation's 250th Birthday' after boycotting the event in the past. The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) represents journalists covering the White House and has hosted the gala for more than 100 years. The dinner celebrates free speech and the freedom of the press and helps fund scholarships for journalists.
