23:45Now PlayingUS prosecutors have charged the governor of Mexico’s Sinaloa state and nine other current and former officials with drug trafficking and weapons offenses, according to an indictment unsealed in New York.
Authorities say the accused helped the Sinaloa Cartel move fentanyl and other drugs into the United States. None of the defendants are in US custody, and Mexico says it has received extradition requests.
The case raises new pressure on Mexico’s government and deepens tensions over corruption, sovereignty, and cartel violence.
