Israel has captured the strategic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, marking its deepest military advance into the country since withdrawing in 2000. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says troops have crossed the Litani River and will expand operations against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.

The move comes despite an existing ceasefire, and just days before new diplomatic talks involving Lebanon, Israel, and the wider Iran conflict.
