Serbia’s students are winning the streets. But can they win elections? | DW Current Affairs

For more than 18 months, Serbian students have been at the forefront of one of the country's largest protest movements in history. The demonstrations began after the deadly collapse of a newly renovated railway station canopy in the city of Novi Sad in November 2024, which killed 16 people and sparked allegations of corruption, negligence and lack of accountability. Today, student-led groups are pushing for early parliamentary elections, arguing that Serbia's institutions can no longer address the crisis impartially.
