Many of those targeted - mostly from Malawi and Mozambique - say they were driven out overnight, some hiding in the bush before reaching safety. Several countries, including Malawi, Mozambique and Ghana, are now repatriating their citizens. As tensions rise, the violence is raising urgent questions about migrant safety and growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the region.
