Ukraine's commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, says Kyiv is preparing for the possibility of a Russian attack from the Bryansk region. But he argues the objective would not be another assault on Kyiv. Instead, Russia could try to seize territory in northern Ukraine and force Kyiv to divert troops away from the fiercest fighting in the east.
At the same time, Syrskyi says Belarus is unlikely to allow its territory to be used as a launchpad for another invasion, despite repeated warnings from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in recent weeks.
