"It is illegal to finance political parties in Germany from abroad," Chancellor Friedrich Merz said after DW’s Nina Haase asked whether he viewed US “civilizational” grants for European groups as political interference.

The US State Department has opened applications for millions of dollars in grants for European civil society organizations, NGOs, educational institutions and for-profit groups working on issues including "Western civilization heritage, migration, national sovereignty and free speech."
